Lesson Three

Choices
Sometimes we make good choices and sometimes we make bad ones.

Regardless of whether we make the “right” ones or the “wrong” ones, (right or wrong often depends on your point of view) each choice carries consequences with it. Even if the choice you made was to not make a choice.

Usually, when one choice is made, it leads to another which leads to another. Each one having its own consequences, e.g., we decide to go on vacation. Then we have to figure out who we take with us, where to go, for how long, do we drive or fly, do we take the money from savings or borrow it, etc..

Each choice has its consequences. That's the way life is. You do what you think is right to accomplish your personal goals or aspirations.

Many of the choices we make throughout our lives have intended consequences. Some consequences, however, are absolutely unintended and can result in disaster.

Driving drunk might be one example: getting home safely would be the goal, while hitting a pedestrian on the way home could have dire consequences. As bad as that example could be, there is a much more important one for each of us.

It has to do with your “afterlife”.

First, you have to decide whether or not you believe in an afterlife. Then you have to decide what to do about it. These are serious decisions because the choices you make here will determine, not the finite life of your body but, the infinite life of your soul.

Deciding that there is no afterlife would definitely be the easiest choice. It probably wouldn't require any life-style changes or sacrifices on your part. However, if the Holy Bible is accurate, (no one has ever disproved a single word in it) that “easy” choice would be the worst possible one you would ever make.

Keeping in mind that nothing good comes easily, you must understand that no amount of “good works” will gain you entry to Heaven.

Your “good works” might get you some bonus frequent flyer miles but the only thing that will get you through the “gates” is faith and belief that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior.

God said it would be easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle that for a rich man to get into heaven. He also said that you had to be “as a little child” which means to believe, without questioning. Oh, did I mention that if you don't get into Heaven, you go to Hell….for eternity?

Okay, no pressure here. This should be an easy decision. Right?
